Developed in 1938 at the Geneva Station, this red-fleshed apple is a cross between two beloved heirlooms Wolf River and Niedwetzkyana. It has a better flavor than Niedwetzkyana, though is still definitely not for eating out of hand. Its perfect for lending its dark red color to pies, sauces, and cider. Makes an excellent single variety rosé cider. Dry flesh, with good tannins and very high pectin.

The tree also has a gorgeous red tint to the leaves and bark, and blooms a brilliant pink.
